Takeaway, the healthier way 0

Posted on October 27, 2011 by Una

Is it possible to have a takeaway that’s healthy? Of course it is. You just need to be well informed on the more healthier options available and also not order too much of one food.

Orna Daly, a customer of JustEat.ie claims that takeaways can be just as healthy as regular homemade meals, ‘it used to be a situation that all takeaway food was doused in grease and oil, but I don’t think that this is the case now.  Thai food, I find, is particularly healthy. There’s a crunch to the vegetables, and the food feels light. We’re more health conscious now and I think we’re starting to understand more the concept of healthy eating.’

JustEat.ie has over 700 takeaways in their database including Indian, Thai, Chinese and Mexican, thus you have a wide range to choose from with hundreds of options.

Some healthy dishes + tips for your next order:

1. Thai – People regard Thai food as being healthier than Chinese. Watch out for nuts, a lot of Thai dishes contain peanuts. A lot of Thai food is steamed thus is more healthy than dishes that are fried. Try ordered steamed fish next time a takeaway takes your fancy!

2. Chinese – Try not to go too mad eating prawn crackers! As yummy as they are very high in fat. Go for steamed rice instead of fried. It’s best not to order dishes that have a large amount of sauce on them.

3. Mexican – Why not try burritos with vegetables and beans or grilled “fresco” style steak burrito? If possible try and limit the sour cream.

4. For any order, read the description that’s given in the menu. Dishes that have the words deep-fried, pan-fried, battered, breaded, creamy, crispy are usually high in calories and not the best of choices if you want to keep a healthy tummy.

It is definitely possible to still order takeaway and maintain a healthy diet. You just have to be well informed! With the wide range JustEat has available it’s easy to have a varied and healthy diet. It’s all simply about balance and moderation of different types of food.

New food adventures… 0

Posted on October 01, 2011 by Una

Food isn’t about shoveling it into your mouth, it’s about savoring a taste in a moment and distinguishing it from others.

I try to look at food as an adventure, even if I really don’t like the sound of it. Take for example; snails. A French delicacy but extremely bizarre to look at even imagine eating. First off we must get rid of the image that we’ve embedded that they’re ‘slimy’, ‘gooey’ and ‘chewy.’ I say so what?

Jelly sweets are chewy, caramel chocolate is gooey, and lets face it, chips doused in grease are pretty slimy!

So, I just ask you to try it. If you don’t like something you don’t, but at least you can say you gave it a go. And at the end of the day, it looks pretty impressive that you even tried something out of the norm.

Out of this list how many dishes have you tried?

1. Frog’s Legs
2. Porcupine
3. Stuffed Vine Leaves
4. Sushi
5. Fried Vegetable Crisps
6. Squid Ink Pasta
7. Seaweed – Kombu, Dulse, Dillisk, Nori
8. Liver
9. Deep Fried Mars Bar
10. Moon Cakes

Food is made to be eaten and food is made to be tried. Don’t be scared, be adventurous.
