Feed me, Seymour
Feed me all night long
Audrey II sings – Feed me (Go get it) – Little Shop of Horrors

Feed me Seymore

The little shop of horrors is these days a classic musical. Seymour Krelborn is the lamentable no-hoper who makes good with the aid (or despite the aid) of an alien plant bent on world domination. The demand “feed me” though is something that a lot of people will be familiar with, whether it’s from a demanding other half or if you have your own monsters who seem bent on world domination, or at least domestic domination.
If you’re a domestic goddess (or god) and you have a demanding terror or terrors you feel you can’t say no to, you probably find it difficult to get anything done.
Eliminating some of the demands is one way to ease your way back to domestic Nirvana so while Judo, ballet, football and homework can’t be binned, dealing with the “Feed me” demand is something you can unburden yourself from at least now and again.
Obviously eating out all the time with your “Audrey II”s is too expensive for most people, not to mention a logistical and disciplinary nightmare that a Commando Colonel would be proud to pull off, but that doesn’t mean you are chained to the stove. Take out food might be your salvation. These days the choice for online restaurants is growing enough to cater for almost any tastes and whether your delivery is in Dublin, Galway or Cork you can just pop onto JustEat.ie and sort it all out in one easy move. Might be worth doing before your little horrors start making demands for blood.

There’s about twenty of them, we gently sift through them and ultimately settle on trying out all the Chinese takeaways that deliver in the hope that we won’t be poisoned. When we hit one where it’s quite nice we often become creatures of habit with one number wired into the phone for our Saturday night feasting.
But lets be frank a simple change in personell or just a mistranslation by someone who has English as a second language can turn your Peking duck into a General Tsongs Chicken. A recent experience with a wrong order from my local Chinese take-away in Dublin had this exact problem. It could easily have been your local take-away in cork or the galway delivery of a pizzeria, the problems can be the same. So what to do about it?
I decided to check out ways of getting my order in without it being misinterpreted at all.

Going into the take-away and having them read the order back to me.

This worked quite well as I could correct things on the spot but lets be honest it does take some of the convenience out of take out food.

Verdict – Reliable but self defeating.

Carrier Pigeon

I tried this but none of the carrier pigeons ever came back and I never received my take-away. I’m presuming foul play or that the owner of a local sit-down restaurant has intercepted them with an air-gun. Also pigeons make a mess in your living room and may get you into trouble with your landlord.

Verdict – Unreliable and slightly messy.

An Post

This method didn’t work although I think that may be because the take-away may have thought it was a wind-up. Problems here are registered post is expensive and also mailing the restaurant takes a little of the spontaneity out of the take away meal.

Verdict – Reliable but untimely and expensive

Online Restaurants

Seemed like a good idea and not bad if an individual restaurant has a system and if everyone wants the same kind of food.

Verdict – Reliable but limited

Just-Eat.ie

This seems really the answer to all my prayers. I type in the order myself, I pay the money they deliver. No delays, no mistakes and no pigeon droppings or feathers.

Verdict – Feed me
So there you have it folks Just-eat.ie it’s better than the post or carrier pigeons for getting you what you want when you want it.

Just-Eat, the world’s largest online takeaway service, has completed its acquisition of Urbanbite, a leading London online food delivery provider. The deal consolidates Just-Eat’s position as the UK’s leading online service for takeaway restaurants and gives it access to Urbanbite’s industry leading corporate business.

The deal, which sees Just-Eat take a 100 per cent stake in Urbanbite, will have founder Ben Carmona remain with the company in a key leadership role. Urbanbite, founded in 2000, operates a corporate account scheme whereby employees of major organisations can order dinner online at the company’s expense subject to a number of proprietary rules and policies. With 60 per cent of Urbanbite’s 15,000 orders a month coming from corporate customers, the acquisition places Just-Eat firmly at the forefront of this burgeoning market.

Carmona said “We are delighted to be joining forces with a major and influential player like as Just-Eat. This, I believe, will give the business the boost and credibility it needs to make significant inroads into the lucrative corporate market.”

David Buttress, Managing Director for UK for Just-Eat, said “With people working longer hours, more companies are offering food deliveries for their employees. The corporate market is one of the fastest growing sectors in the industry, and this acquisition not only further consolidates our position as the UK’s leading online takeaway provider, but helps us establish a strong grasp on the key London and corporate markets. As an industry leader we are always looking for opportunities to grow and develop as a business, and with Urbanbite becoming part of the Just-Eat family we will have access to the knowledge Ben and his team have built up over the last few years.”

The Urbanbite deal is the third acquisition Just-Eat have made in 2011, following a move into Brazil with RestauranteWeb and the purchase of Hungry Zone in India earlier in the year. This rapid growth has been supported by a $48 million round of VC funding in March, and the appointment of key personnel, including Ask.com’s Chief Product Officer Daniel Read to the same role at Just-Eat.
