Hello. My name is James Galvin and I am the Managing Director of Just-Eat Ireland. So who am I and what do I do? The MD in most organisations would usually be sat in the corner in a comfy chair, by the window, looking very important. I do that basically.
Just-Eat is not an organisation that likes too much corporate structure. Of course every business needs structure, but what we try to make is a busines that is as democratic as possible. Everyone’s opinion is valid. I am the one who ultimately makes the final decisions, but I encourage all members of my team to be vocal in their ideas, opinions and suggestions. I believe this approach at its core is what makes working life enjoyable, and ultimately you have to enjoy what you do, otherwise what is the point?
My background involves over 10 years of internet consumer facing marketing. Sounds dead fancy but its not really. 8 years in London building my knowledge base in things such as search marketing (Google basically), online media, affiliate marketing and much more. The last 2 years or so I have been in Ireland, throwing my tuppence worth into the digital industry here. I am passionate about the consumer experience of our product, and whilst I know we don’t always get it 100% right, our mandate is to aim for it. Also what is really important is when things go wrong, is to fix them fast. We live and die by the strength of our product and consumer faith in us will be paramount to our success. Quite simply, we must always listen to our customers, engage with them positively and strive to improve our business across the board.
That concludes the party political broadcast of the guy who has the nicest seat in the office. Thanks for reading.
